If you are planning to get your vehicle wrapped, surely you are wondering if they can be removed. This is one of the most frequent yet most important questions there is when it comes to vehicle wrapping. It is important to ask this sort of questions before you decide anything. Luckily for you, the answer is yes! Vehicle wraps can be removed.

This is one of the many advantages of vehicle wraps. It is especially good for businesses who intend to do their marketing and advertising with vehicle wraps. In addition, because they can be removed, individual car owners also take advantage of vehicle wraps when they want to give their cars a new look.

However, it should be noted that a vehicle wrap can only be successfully removed when:

  • The vehicle wrap is made of high-quality vinyl
  • No primer was used during installation
  • The vehicle has OEM Paint (original paint from manufacturer)

Some amateur vehicle wrap installers might tell you to put primer to seal the vinyl, but you should remember that it is NOT necessary to use primer especially when you plan on removing the wrap soon. Additionally, a vehicle that is already applied with another kind of paint and not its original OEM paint will cause damage to both the clear coat and the paint when the wrap is removed. If the vehicle has OEM paint and the clear coat is in good condition (fully intact and not chipping or peeling), the vehicle wrap may be removed without damaging the paint or clear coat.

A professional, experienced, and qualified installer will know that he should carefully prepare the surface of the vehicle before doing the standard post-installation procedures. With road vehicles, it is definitely unnecessary to use primer. Any installer who advises otherwise should be avoided or rejected because that would mean that they are trying to lessen their time on the job. The vehicle wrap will not last long as expected, and the removal of the wrap will be costly and extremely difficult.

How to Remove a Vehicle Wrap

As long as the conditions mentioned above are met, removing the vehicle wrap will be relatively quick and easy.

  • Use an appropriate heat source (e.g., heat gun) to heat the vehicle wrap up to the proper temperature.
  • Once properly heated, carefully and slowly remove the wrap at a 45-degree angle.
  • Never tear the wrap with force and immediacy. Use both hands with your fingers spread widely apart to avoid separating the vinyl from the adhesive.
